What Is Sciatica?

Sciatica is a painful condition caused by the impingement of the sciatic nerve. The pain normally starts from your lower back and travels through your buttocks, hips, and down each leg. Typically, it only affects one side of a person’s body. You should be aware of when it is time to visit a chiropractor for your sciatic pain. Chiropractic Care

It is important for a chiropractor to examine each patient thoroughly, as well as review his or her medical history. This important step allows a chiropractor to determine the root cause of a person's sciatica. Chiropractic therapies and treatments are capable of resolving even the most painful and chronic sciatica symptoms.

Chiropractors use ice and cold therapy to help with the reduction of inflammation to control the pain caused by sciatica. They also use spinal manipulation to restore misaligned vertebra in the spine to relieve nerve compression.

Ultrasound is also commonly used as well. Ultrasound therapy generates heat using sound waves that penetrate deep into tissues. This helps by increasing circulation and decreasing pain, swelling, cramping, and muscle spasms. These treatments will in turn improve the symptoms of sciatica.
